Greenwood flops in Man Utd’s Milan draw

Manchester United were denied what could have been a pivotal UEFA Europa League victory against AC Milan at Old Trafford.

Amad Diallo’s first Red Devils strike looked like being enough for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men on Thursday evening but a late Simon Kjaer header ensured that the teams are level heading to the San Siro next week.

It was an evening of mixed performances from the United team, with Mason Greenwood one of those who severely underwhelmed.

Recalled into the starting XI due to the absence of fellow academy graduate Marcus Rashford, the 19-year-old was almost anonymous on the right flank.

According to WhoScored, the Englishman did not have a single shot throughout the game and only managed to contribute one key pass.

Whilst that lack of threat is somewhat not a surprise considering that Greenwood has only scored four goals in all competitions this season, his lack of involvement was poor.

Of the United players who completed the 90 minutes, only goalkeeper Dean Henderson and defender Eric Bailly had fewer touches of the ball than the 19-year-old. Even when he did get involved and receive, he was not able to do much with it. Only Alex Telles relinquished possession more regularly than Greenwood, who lost the ball 15 times. His passing success was not all too inspiring either at 75%, via Sofascore.

Considering that Greenwood was brought into the team in place of Rashford, who could be a doubt for the weekend’s clash with West Ham United, Solskjaer will be concerned about the performance of his £45m-rated forward and also the potential of including the starlet in the starting lineup against the Hammers.

That might be harsh considering Rashford’s phenomenal output so far throughout the season for the Red Devils but Greenwood certainly needs to improve and avoid more anonymous showings, especially with United continuing to challenge on multiple fronts.

West Ham United: Club urged to not sign Armstrong

West Ham United have been urged to not continue their chase of Blackburn Rovers striker Adam Armstrong.

Former Premier Leauge striker Kevin Phillips has recently talked about West Ham’s links with a move to sign Armstrong and he believes that the Hammers shouldn’t sign the Blackburn forward.

Armstrong may not fit West Ham

Phillips was recently talking to Football Insider and he talked about the club’s links with a move for the forward. He believes that Armstrong is not the sort of forward that David Moyes’ would be looking for. He feels that Moyes is looking for a forward who is taller than Armstrong, as they are looking to replace Sebastian Haller.

He said: “I do not think Adam Armstrong fits the mould at West Ham. Would Moyes even consider it? If I am being totally honest, I do not think he would.

“I think Moyes would be going down the route of a 6 foot plus striker. Of course, Haller was that type of player and it did not work, but Armstrong? I do not think he would suit the way Moyesy wants to play.”

Armstrong, currently 23, has made 27 appearances in all competitions this season. He has scored 17 times, getting seven assists. In the Championship, he has scored 16 goals while picking up three assists. This is a reflection of how he is a prolific contributor to goals.

Queens Park Rangers manager Mark Warburton has praised Armstrong quite a bit. He said:

“He’s a top quality player. I’m sure Tony was desperate for him to get on the teamsheet, as much as we were desperate for him to not be on the teamsheet.

“But that’s what he can do to teams. I thought we done well to stop him in the opening half but you can’t afford to give someone of that calibre any decent opportunities. That’s the quality of the Championship.”

West Ham can make do with Armstrong

Armstrong boasts of a very good record for Rovers. In 144 games for the Lancashire-based side, he has scored 52 goals while also picking up 17 assists on the way. This is a reflection of the qualities of the player and he is only valued at £9 million.

This shows that if West Ham did make a move for him, he might not be a costly investment and he is still only 23 right now. He has a very good goalscoring record but Phillips thinks that he is not the type of player that Moyes would want, but time will tell if he’s correct.

Caso consigamos derrotá-los, vamos ultrapassá-los e ainda poderemos terminar a rodada fora do Z6. Eles também vêm de vitória, precisam do resultado tanto quanto nós e em função disso sabemos que será mais um embate duríssimo na competição – encerrou.

Arsenal want Man City’s Eric Garcia

According to Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal are interested in signing Manchester City starlet Eric Garcia.

What’s the story?

The Spaniard’s contract with Pep Guardiola’s side comes to an end in the summer, with the City boss himself confirming recently that he doesn’t think the centre-back will sign a new deal at the Etihad.

Despite suggestions that Garcia might be on his way to La Liga giants Barcelona, Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo claim that Arsenal and PSG have approached the 20-year-old over a potential summer switch.

Bye-bye Mustafi

With reports suggesting that Arsenal could be set to terminate Shkodran Mustafi’s contract during this January transfer window – the German’s deal expires in the summer – it’s no surprise that the north London side are after another defender in Garcia.

Guardiola hailed Garcia someone who plays at an “incredibly high level” and who “doesn’t make mistakes”, and given Mustafi’s error-prone career at Arsenal (who can ever forget his Crystal Palace disaster at the Emirates?), that would be very much welcomed at the Emirates.

The Spaniard is someone who is extremely comfortable on the ball, with his impressive 93.1% pass accuracy last season in the Premier League, only bettered by John Stones among his City teammates. Compare that to Arsenal’s players though, and it’s far better than every one of them, with the closest being Matteo Guendouzi who averaged 88.4%.

And given that Arteta worked as Guardiola’s assistant at City, he will know all about Garcia, and what his strengths and weakness are. The 20-year-old would be a perfect fit for the Gunners given his Premier League experience, and the centre-back himself likely wouldn’t take too long to get to grips with his former coach’s way of working.

On a free transfer, at just 20-years-old, and having worked with Arteta before, Garcia ticks all the boxes for Edu.

Meanwhile, Arsenal could sign their next Ashley Cole in this starlet…

West Ham: Fans want Josh King after inside update %%page%% %%sep%% %%sitename%%

Commenting on West Ham United’s potential January transfer window plans, coming after an inside update from in the know figure ExWHUemployee, many Hammers have pleaded with GSB to land Bournemouth talisman Joshua King.

King, who was linked with a high profile summer move back to the Premier League after the Cherries were relegated, has been described as the ‘perfect signing’ by pundit Darren Bent – with supporters keen on the idea of landing him after ExWHUemployee shared the club’s interest.

The 28-year-old is apparently seen as a priority target by David Moyes who has stressed the importance of his signing in January – coming as Michail Antonio’s injury issues mount while Sebastien Haller continues to divide supporters.

Taking this into account, many Irons want the club to sign King as West Ham search for a striking option who can cover all bases in terms of being proven in the top flight whilst potentially coming for a cheap price.

Predicted Leicester XI vs Everton – preview, team and injury news

Leicester City have a golden opportunity to go top of the Premier League table today as they prepare to host Everton at the King Power Stadium. Closest title rivals Tottenham and Liverpool are set to lock horns this evening in what promises to be a thrilling fixture.

If neither side can find a way to bank the win and the Foxes beat the Toffees, they will leapfrog both clubs and settle nicely at the top with a one-point lead.

All eyes will be on this possibility and Brendan Rodgers will want to hit Everton where it hurts. Here’s how Football FanCast has predicted Leicester to line up against Carlo Ancelotti’s side…

With Jonny Evans set to miss the match due to a yellow card suspension, Rodgers may be forced to drop his three-at-the-back staple. He did deploy a standard 4-3-3 on several occasions however, with the last time being against Zorya Luhansk in the Europa League.

If he reverts to this set-up, captain Wes Morgan could make a return to the starting lineup, with Christian Fuchs shifting along into his natural left-back position.

Both Youri Tielemans and Wilfred Ndidi are all but nailed on to start and they will play a deeper lying midfield role in this change in formation. This will allow maximum creativity behind Jamie Vardy – Rodgers should be looking to pile heavy pressure onto the Everton backline and could start all of Harvey Barnes, James Maddison and Cengiz Under together.

Maddison has been in fine form this season, he scored two of Leicester’s three goals against Brighton last time out. However, the same can’t be said for Ayoze Perez, who has been rather inconsistent this season.

Putting Under and Barnes either side of the England international could cause serious problems for Everton, who will want to build on their shock 1-0 win over Chelsea. If the Foxes can hit them on the counter-attack, then the four attacking options could seriously hurt Ancelotti.

The £94,000 per week summer loan signing has made just five starts out of a possible 13 so far and is yet to start in the Premier League (via Transfermarkt). Tonight could the winger’s time to shine.

Everton: Fans laud link to Valencia ace Maxi Gomez

Many Everton fans have been lauding a transfer link to Maxi Gomez as the Daily Telegraph have reported that the Merseyside club are keeping tabs on the Valencia ace.

According to the outlet, Carlo Ancelotti’s team have made contact with the Spanish side with regards to the availability of the player, and Gomez will apparently be allowed to leave so that they can trim their squad going into the new 2020/21 term in order to cut costs.

Indeed, the £28.8 million-valued ace has a relatively impressive scoring record at club level, netting no fewer than 70 times and making a further 26 assists in 170 games in all competitions over the last few seasons, as per Transfermarkt.

These members of the Goodison Park faithful lauded the link on Twitter, with one EFC supporter even claiming that the Uruguayan international is the ‘closest we’ll come to ever replacing Lukaku,’ as the former Chelsea and Manchester United man managed to score 87 goals in 166 matches for the Toffees (via Transfermarkt):

Aston Villa: First team trio sidelined for crunch clash with Liverpool

Aston Villa have received a triple blow ahead of their Premier League encounter against Liverpool on Saturday at Villa Park.

Dean Smith’s side are due to welcome the Premier League champions this weekend in their bid to maintain their perfect start to the 2020/21 campaign.

Having avoided relegation on the final day of last season against West Ham United, Villa will be hoping to finish much higher up the standings this season. Their good start can certainly contribute to that.

But their stunning run could be hampered by the latest news that could concern the Villa Park faithful.

Birmingham Live reported that three players will be missing for the crucial clash against last season’s league-toppers. Having been knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the hands of Stoke City on Thursday, Kortney Hause picked up a groin injury and will not be available for selection.

Bjorn Engels is still struggling with a thigh strain and the game against Jurgen Klopp’s side just comes too soon for him, looking at the Leicester City match after the international break as his targetted return date.

With Wesley still recovering from knee ligament damage, Orjan Nyland will also not be in the matchday squad at the weekend.

Playing against the reigning champions is difficult enough. But when your side has to face them with injury problems makes it even more challenging.

Villa will be in for a game. With Liverpool also being knocked out of the Carabao Cup on Thursday, they will be wanting to turn their fortunes around almost instantly.

That being said, none of the players listed above started during their 3-0 victory against Fulham in their last game. Whether this will influence Dean Smith’s thinking of his tactics, remains to be seen, but it will certainly impact his options off the bench.

Whatever happens, the Villains will have to go toe-to-toe with the Reds to prove they have what it takes to secure their Premier League status once more.
