West Ham fans buzz over Coventry update

Flocking to Twitter, many West Ham United fans have gone wild for an update on exciting youngster Conor Coventry from a Rush Green source.

The 21-year-old has been subject to heavy interest from Peterborough over the last week as The Posh make a move to sign him on loan for the 2021/2022 season.

He has excelled in pre-season for West Ham and is widely regarded as the possible next big talent to come through at the London Stadium, drawing some comparisons with Declan Rice.

When news broke of the Irons considering his loan exit for this campaign, there was plenty of uproar on social media given their lack of depth in central midfield.

Now, a West Ham source has brought news from Rush Green, explaining to Football Insider that manager David Moyes has ‘pulled the plug’ on a Coventry exit.

Indeed, the Scotsman has apparently changed his mind on the talent and wants him in West Ham’s first team over what will be a long and gruelling campaign fighting on multiple fronts.

Flocking to this development, it’s safe to say many Hammers are ecstatic over the U-turn – find all of their best reactions to the news, in reply to West Ham Fan Zone and West Ham News & Views, down below.

Steve Tikolo will captain Kenya on their tour of Europe in August which includes two Intercontinental Cup matches and a one-day series against Scotland, Netherlands and Ireland. The only surprise in the 16-member squad is the inclusion of Ragheb Aga, the allrounder who last played senior cricket for Kenya in 2004.Aga was unavailable through 2007 as he had gained a British passport and a one-year contract with Sussex. Despite not taking part in any of Kenya’s three domestic tournaments – the three-day games, Twenty20 and one-dayers – Aga has been selected against Cricket Kenya’s selection rules.Uncapped Nairobi Gymkhana batsman Rakep Patel also finds a place. The squad contains two wicketkeepers, including the veteran Kennedy Otieno and Maurice Ouma. Otieno, who missed out on selection for the World Cup last year, has been in good batting form in the Sahara Elite tournaments.Kenya begin their tour in Scotland with an Intercontinental Cup match between August 7-10 before back-to-back ODIs on August 12 and 13. The Netherlands leg includes an Intercontinental Cup match between August 16-19 and a one-off ODI two days later. They round off their tour with three ODIs in Ireland on August 24, 25 and 27.

Saints fans love new third kit

Many Southampton fans were delighted as the club revealed their new third kit for the upcoming 2021/22 campaign.

The Saints are preparing for the new season after a 2020/21 CAMPAIGN which saw them reach an FA Cup semi-final but also finish a lowly 15th place in the Premier League. Ralph Hasenhuttl will be hoping that the Saints can improve on their performances and finish higher up the table next May.

Of course, a new season means that a new set of kits have been released, and now Southampton have revealed the club’s third kit for 2021/22. The design from Hummel features silhouettes of the club’s two most recent stadia, St Mary’s and The Dell, while it also includes red/orange lettering on a predominantly black shirt.

The kit was shared on the club’s official Twitter account, and it attracted plenty of attention from Saints supporters. These fans took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Let’s see what these fans had to say about the new third kit

West Ham hold talks with Onuachu agent

According to a report by OwnGoalNigeria.com, West Ham United have held talks with the agent of striking target Paul Onuachu and detailed how much they are willing to pay Genk for his services.

The Lowdown: West Ham eyeing Onuachu…

Numerous claims from Nigeria have emerged over these last few weeks as manager David Moyes expands his net far and wide in search of a new forward.

Onuachu is apparently a name who has caught the Scotsman’s eye and allnigeriasoccer.com even claimed that he personally told West Ham hierarchy to table an official bid for the player.

OwnGoalNigeria also said last month that West Ham believed they were in ‘pole position’ to sign the player, with this same website now bringing a fresh update.

The Latest: West Ham approach agent…

As per the African source, GSB and West Ham have approached Onuachu’s agent with talks now held over how much they would be willing to pay Genk for his services.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-news/” title=”West Ham news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Indeed, the Hammers are apparently offering ‘in excess’ of €15 million (£12.8m), but this is €10 million (£8.5m) lower than what the Belgian club will ‘likely settle for’.

Preliminary talks have ‘taken place’ but it has now emerged that West Ham have threatened to walk away from a deal if an agreement can’t be reached by the ‘first week of next month’.

A source close to Onuachu’s situation, speaking to OwnGoalNigeria.com, describes it as a ‘mess’ – with his asking price apparently ‘scaring away suitors’ despite the fact he ‘wants to leave’.

The Verdict: Blow for the Irons?

Even though West Ham shouldn’t pay over the odds for a forward who has only scored prolifically in the Belgian and Danish top flights (Transfermarkt), he still arguably has the credentials to succeed under Moyes.

Lauded as a ‘huge’ and ‘very strong’ striker by Nigeria international teammate Kenneth Omeruo (omasports.com), he also notched a phenomenal 35 goals in all competitions for Genk over 2020/2021 (Transfermarkt).

He would, in our opinion, be the ideal striking signing to bolster West Ham’s options and provide sufficient cover for Michail Antonio.

However, as per this claim, the Irons appear to be that bit further away from securing his signature.

Tottenham handed Tomiyasu transfer boost

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a boost in their bid to bring Takehiro Tomiyasu to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Italian media outlet Calciomercato (via Sport Witness), who claim that Atalanta BC will be pulling out of the race to sign the Bologna FC 1909 centre-back, as the gap between the €20m (£17m) the La Dea are willing to pay for the defender and the €25m (£21.5m) Bologna are demanding to sanction his sale is not being closed in negotiations.

Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with a move for the defender in recent days, with Fabio Paratici believed to have made a €20m (£17m) offer for the Japan international, and, with Atalanta appearing to be out of the race to sign the 22-year-old, Spurs could now have something of a free run at the centre-back.

Paratici will be buzzing

While the likes of Arsenal and West Ham United have both been credited with an interest in Tomiyasu this summer, the fact that an actively bidding rival in Atalanta have dropped out of the race for the defender’s signature is sure to have left Paratici buzzing.

While previously it had looked as if Tottenham could be drawn into something of a bidding war for the £18m-rated man, with the Serie A now out of the picture, the director of football finds himself in a much greater position of negotiating power for the centre-back who highly impressed in Italy last season.

Indeed, over his 31 Serie A appearances for Sinisa Mihajlovic’s side last term, Tomiyasu helped his team keep four clean sheets, as well as making an average of 1.7 interceptions, 1.5 tackles, 3.3 clearances and winning 5.4 duels per game.

The £13k-per-week defender also chipped in for Bologna going forwards, scoring two goals, as well as taking an average of 0.5 shots and making 0.3 key passes per league fixture.

These returns saw the man Mitchell Dijks dubbed a “warrior” earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.86, ranking him as I Rossoblu’s joint eighth-best performer in the top flight of Italian football.

As such, it would very much seem as if Tomiyasu would make a fantastic addition to Nuno Espirito Santo’s options in the heart of the Tottenham backline ahead of next season. Following the latest news regarding Atalanta’s withdrawal in the race for his signature, Spurs fans could well be seeing the Japanese star in action at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the not so distant future.

Gerrard handed huge Ianis Hagi boost

Steven Gerrard has been handed a significant boost at Ibrox this week as Rangers star Ianis Hagi has been left out of Romania’s squad for the Olympic Games this summer, which should mean that the winger is available for the start of the new club season.

Rangers were reportedly set to prevent their player from representing his country at the Olympics in Tokyo this summer due to the clash with the Champions League qualifiers.

Whilst Gerrard’s side had no obligation to allow Hagi to leave, there was perhaps a worry among some Ger fans that it would cause a dispute between the 22-year-old and the club at a time when he is attracting interest from abroad.

The likes of Lazio and Sevilla are said to be interested in the former Genk man, who impressed in his first full season as a Rangers player, winning the club’s 2020/21 Young Player of the Season award for his performances.

However, fortunately for Gerrard, Hagi has now been left out of Mirel Radoi’s Romania squad, which should hopefully bring an end to any dispute between Rangers and the winger as he should now be fully focused on the season ahead at Ibrox.

The Gers kick off their Premiership title defence with a game against Livingston on 31 July, whilst their first pre-season friendly sees them take on Partick Thistle on Monday evening, so it is good news for Gerrard that Hagi will be available for selection.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-rangers-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=”Read the latest Rangers transfer rumours and news!”]

Last season saw the winger contribute an impressive eight goals and 15 assists in all competitions for the Light Blues, so his creativity will surely be key for Rangers next season if they are to retain the Premiership title and challenge in the Champions League.

Gerrard is certainly a big fan of the youngster, as he sang his praises in the 2019/20 season during his initial loan spell at Ibrox, saying: “Ianis is an outstanding talent and that stage was made for him.”

[freshpress-quiz id=“593776″]

Therefore, it is a huge boost that the Romanian will now be available for Rangers rather than travelling to Tokyo for the Olympics, and Gers fans will be hoping to see him carry over his form from last season into the new campaign.

Pundit says David Moyes nearly returned to Everton in 2019

Former Premier League manager Lawrie Sanchez has exclusively told Football FanCast that David Moyes was in talks about returning to Everton back in 2019.

Moyes spent 11 years at Goodison Park before eventually leaving to become the Manchester United boss once Alex Ferguson retired back in 2013.

Six years later, however, Sanchez claims that the Scotsman came close making the switch back to Merseyside.

Having led West Ham to a 13th-place finish during his first spell at the London Stadium before getting the sack, Moyes had been out of management for around 18 months.

And with Everton sacking Marco Silva following their poor start to the 2019-2020, the ex-Northern Ireland boss said that Moyes was being considered to replace the Portuguese.

However, less than three weeks after Silva was removed from his position at Goodison Park, the Toffees appointed Carlo Ancelotti as his replacement following Duncan Ferguson’s unbeaten stint as caretaker.

As for Moyes, who’s been linked with a return to Everton in recent weeks, he went back to West Ham for his second spell later that month and guided the club to safety before bringing European football back to east London last season.

But it could have been so different for the 58-year-old manager, according to Sanchez.

He told Football FanCast:

“As I understand it, before Ancelotti went there, they were talking to him about going there.”

Slater wins recall, named captain

One of the worst kept secrets of recent weeks has been confirmed this morning with Michael Slater’s appointment to the New South Wales captaincy for the state’s closing game of the Pura Cup season. The Blues’ selectors have recalled Slater, at the end of a troubled personal season, to lead their team in the Pura Cup match against Tasmania that starts in Hobart on Wednesday.Slater’s return, and his elevation to a leadership post that has already had four different occupants this summer, was conditioned by the absence of several of the side’s senior players.First-choice captain Steve Waugh is on tour with the national side in South Africa; regular stand-in leader Shane Lee is still suffering the effects of a serious knee injury; and Glenn McGrath, Mark Waugh, Brett Lee, Michael Bevan and Stuart MacGill are also all on international duty. Young batsman Graeme Rummans, who is serving a suspension following a positive drugs test, was also excluded from consideration. The Blues’ selectors reportedly exhausted a range of options in their choice for a new leader, ultimately placing Slater on a shortlist of four candidates. His readiness for a recall was then confirmed with a belligerent innings of 56 from 49 balls in a game for the University of New South Wales club side on Saturday.Slater, 32, was axed from Australia’s Test team in August last year and from the state side two months ago on the back of form that had yielded just 330 runs from 16 innings at domestic level this summer. The ex-Test opener’s much-documented fall over the last year has also included the break-up of his marriage and the termination of contracts with his manager and the Nine Network.Last-placed New South Wales will be aiming to relegate Victoria to the bottom of the Pura Cup table when it arrives for its match in Hobart. Opponent Tasmania is at the other end of the standings and will be seeking to secure a place in the competition final, to be played later this month. The full squad is: Michael Slater (capt), Nathan Bracken, Stuart Clark, Michael Clarke, Brad Haddin, Phil Jaques, Grant Lambert, Don Nash, Matthew Phelps, Corey Richards, Dale Turner, Vaughan Williams.
