Celtic fans react to Tom Rogic exit rumours

[ad_pod ]

Celtic fans have been reacting on Twitter following a report by the Sydney Morning Herald on Tuesday that suggested that midfielder Tom Rogic is a target for English Premier League clubs Leicester City and Southampton, with a subsequent story in The Daily Record suggesting he has a £15m price tag on his head.

The 26-year-old attack-minded player has enjoyed another impressive season for the Scottish Premiership champions, scoring eight goals and providing a further nine assists in 41 appearances in all competitions.

Those stats have come despite the fact the Australia international missed a large chunk of the campaign with a knee injury, returning shortly before Brendan Rodgers left for the Foxes.

Now it appears he wants to be reunited with him at the King Power Stadium, with the Sydney Morning Herald indicating he could fetch up to $37 Australian dollars (£20m).

However, The Daily Record places his valuation at £5m less than that amount.

Controversial. Uncompromising. Leader. C’mon the Hoops’ Keith talks the future of Celtic’s evergreen captain Scott Brown in the video below…

Celtic supporters have been quick to have their say on the exit rumour ahead of the Old Firm derby against Rangers this weekend, and while one “selling Rogic for £15m is a disaster of an idea”, another said “keeping him at Celtic should be a top priority for Lawwell”.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

Proper waste of time: Leeds fans slam Harrison after another poor showing

[ad_pod ]

Leeds fans have been slating Jack Harrison after yet another poor performance against Preston on Tuesday night.

Harrison had very little impact on proceedings at Deepdale, as he consistently gave the ball away and created next to nothing going forward.

This is the latest in a string of bad showings from Harrison, and even though the Man City loanee has scored just three times since joining Leeds and has provided a measly two assists during his time at Elland Road, he still continues to be a regular in the starting XI.

Harrison was eventually subbed in the 76th minute to be replaced by Gaetano Berardi, a change which Leeds fans surely would have welcomed after the winger’s ineffective display.

Heading into the last few games of the season Leeds are still embroiled in a race for promotion and the 22-year-old will have to buck up his ideas if he wants to play a part.

Fans on Twitter were critical of Harrison both during the game and after proceedings had come to a close.

Here’s what they had to say on Twitter…

The Verdict: Is Alex Neil the right man to take West Brom forward?

[ad_pod ]

Following the surprise sacking of Darren Moore, Preston manager Alex Neil is reportedly West Brom’s preferred choice to take the hotseat. The Scot himself has been forced to fend off questions about leaving Preston for the Hawthorns, saying on Saturday that he expects something to take place – one way or the other – within the coming days.

But bearing in mind they’re all but mathematically confirmed to be in the playoffs, meaning Premier League football next season is a distinct possibility, is the 37-year-old the right man for the job? Football FanCast’s writers deliver their verdicts below…

Billy Meyers

“Neil isn’t the right manager for West Brom. He has shown in the past that he can be a good man to have in charge when in the Championship, guiding Norwich into the Premier League via the play-offs. However, when in the top-flight, he looked very much out of his depth and was ultimately sacked. Right now, the Baggies look capable of achieving promotion with James Shan, and should be looking for a more accomplished figure than Neil to take over.”

James Beavis

“I think he would be a good appointment. West Brom need to realise what they are, and it is never going to be a free-flowing attacking team no matter how much they try. Experiments with Alan Pardew and Darren Moore have ultimately failed as they were too easy to beat, even if their goal tally may have been boosted under the latter in particular. Neil is a manager who gets his teams organised defensively, and doesn’t mind hitting a long ball if it helps his side cause a threat and get the results they need. It may not be pretty all of the time but it is effective. At the end of the day plenty of Baggies supporters wanted change as they were unhappy with life under Moore, so fans will be in no position to moan should he get the job.”

Ben Goodwin

“The Preston boss was fantastic when he first joined Norwich in 2015, winning 17 of a possible 25 games in his first season at the helm, taking the Canaries up to the Premier League through the playoffs. They were of course relegated at the first try, but even Neil himself admitted that was mostly down to recruitment. Now at Deepdale, the Scot has taken an underwhelming squad to the brink of the play-offs, begging the question what would he be capable of at a bigger club with a bigger budget?”

Jack Saville

“I think Alex Neil is an intriguing appointment and one which is bound to split opinion. The reaction rumours of Sam Alllardyce’s appointment evoked told us all we need to know about what the fans want to see and, while Neil will bring a more attractive brand of football than big Sam, big question marks over his ability to garner results are looming large. At this moment in time, however, it’s a gamble worth taking and he could be exactly what the Baggies need.”

West Brom supporters feel Sam Johnstone now starting to prove worth

[ad_pod ]

After keeping two clean sheets in as many games, West Brom fans have heaped the plaudits upon goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, who joined them for an initial £6.5m fee last summer.

The pivotal reason behind his improved displays, according to some supporters, is a change of tactics since Darren Moore was sacked from his role as manager.

It’s a factor which is seeing him prove his worth according to one fan, who claimed he had now justified the price tag West Brom paid Manchester United to sign the ‘keeper. Another individual went as far as calling him the best in the league in his position.

Since caretaker James Shan took charge, the club has won back to back games after previously going four matches without claiming a win.

Johnstone has played a key role in that and supporters have reacted to a video of him on Twitter making a save to praise the stopper.

Members of the Hawthorns faithful have said that Shan’s new system, which doesn’t involve playing out from the back, has meant he’s been able to improve on his actual goalkeeping. One fan even joked that he’d been previously asked to play as a playmaking sweeper.

Since joining the Baggies, he has been ever-present for the Midlands club, playing in all 38 league games to date and has begun to prove doubters wrong according to one individual.

Here’s what’s been said on Twitter.

Manchester City fans reflect on Oleksandr Zinchenko’s season so far

[ad_pod ]

Manchester City fans have taken to Twitter to discuss Oleksandr Zincheko’s season so far, after a stunning campaign in which he has excelled whilst Benjamin Mendy has been out injured.

The Ukrainian almost left the Etihad Stadium back in the summer, after the Citizens agreed a £16m fee with Wolves for his signature – Zinchenko himself decided to stay in Manchester and fight for his place in the team, despite making just 14 appearances last season.

442oons have charted the entire career of Man City’s main man Sergio Aguero through song in the hilarious video below…

He found himself behind Mendy in the pecking order at the start of the current campaign, but after another serious injury to the Frenchman, 22-year-old Zinchenko took his chance by the scruff of the neck – in that respect, it feels as if he is always an unsung hero due to the pedigree, price tag and reputation of the World Cup winning left-back.

He has one goal and four assists to his name this season, starring under Pep Guardiola as he marauds up and down the left flank to great effect, and his efforts have clearly gone down well with the City supporters on Twitter…

Wilder back at Sheffield UnitedReplaces Heckingbottom as managerSheffield United 20th in Premier LeagueGettyWHAT HAPPENED?

The Blades' owner confirmed that the club have parted ways with manager Heckingbottom after a series of poor results, with Wilder drafted in swiftly as his replacement. Wilder has returned to Bramall Lane two and half years after his original exit, and will now set about steering the club out of the relegation zone. Incidentally, it was Heckingbottom who replaced him as Sheffield's interim manager in March 2021.

Speaking to , Prince Abdullah said: "Yes [I have made the decision]. Chris is practically an honour of the club, he’s part of Sheffield United history. One thing I always like to do, not just in football but all of my businesses, is to keep a good relationship with my ex-employees no matter how it ended, I think you should get over it. At the end of the day we’re all passionate about what we do and we believe Chris is the right man for the job. Chris has done great things for the club and in my opinion he’s the best guy on planet earth to take over the club right now in these circumstances."

He added on Heckingbottom's departure: “I have mixed emotions about letting Paul go.I really have a lot of respect for Paul and everything he did for the club, he’s a very classy guy. I’ve been at the club for five years and we changed one manager and that was Slav [Slavisa Jokanovic], so we believe in sticking with the manager and supporting him. But I felt like after the last few games it was a necessary decision and the replacement has done great things for the clubs and knows the club, so I feel good about the decision in one way but I really have a tremendous respect for Paul."

GettyTHE BIGGER PICTURE

Sheffield United, who won promotion to the Premier League last season, have managed to win just once in 14 matches in 2023-24 and sit rock bottom of the table. With Heckingbottom's departure, the Blades become the first top-tier club to part ways with their manager this term. Last season it was Bournemouth who terminated Scott Parker's contract in August after just four games into the season.

A club statement was released confirming Heckingbottom's sacking, before Wilder was officially announced as the Blades' new manager. "Quite simply it was an opportunity which I just couldn't turn down," Wilder told the club website. "Just like in 2016, when this club comes calling, it is not something you pass up. This is Sheffield United, it is my team and I am thrilled to be back. We find ourselves in a difficult position, I understand that, but I think I can make a difference."
