The incident occurred just before the practice match was scheduled to begin, causing widespread panic among the attendees. The scaffolding, which was part of an atmospheric campaign, suddenly gave way, causing a large banner to fall onto the supporters below. Images shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by Ronnie Meijer showed the dramatic moment when the banner descended from a crane, trapping many people underneath.

Crystal Palace sent Oliver Glasner warning after really interesting claim

Crystal Palace chiefs have been sent a warning about heavily-linked prospective new manager Oliver Glasner, with the Austrian currently in pole position to succeed Roy Hodgson as Eagles head coach.

Parish has been looking for Hodgson replacements

Palace's dismal 2023/2024 campaign, which has left them hovering above the relegation zone, has resulted in a plethora of reports suggesting club chairman Steve Parish has been searching for a new manager over the last few weeks.

Alongside Glasner, Palace have been eyeing the likes of Julen Lopetegui and Kieran McKenna (Ed Aarons), but now widespread reports are tipping the former as a major favourite to take the manager's job.

Glasner, who's won the Europa League with former club Eintracht Frankfurt, also boasts a German cup final and Austrian second division title on his CV.

The 49-year-old, who prefers deploying a 3-4-2-1 formation, is currently without a club after departing Eintracht last year – giving Palace a free run at his hire as they attempt to resurrect their dwindling season and avoid relegation.

Glaser has been linked with the Tottenham and West Ham jobs in recent years, all while being called a "meticulous" and thoroughly detailed tactician.

“He’s very structured, very well organised, meticulous, observes the opposition very closely and prepares the team very well for them,” said former Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac to the Frankfurt Allgemeine Zeitung (via Bundesliga).

“He doesn’t just let Eintracht run their boots off. He adjusts tactics, tries to simulate the opponent during the week in training. Oliver has transferred his ideas of football well to his team because he works methodically, because there’s no chopping and changing.”

Sharing further detail on Glasner amid Palace's ongoing talks to appoint him, Sky Sports reporter Kevin Hatchard has done a thorough background check.

Crystal Palace chiefs sent Glasner warning

Taking to X, he says Palace could make a "really interesting" appointment in Glasner, going on to warn club chiefs that they need to be "prepared" for his demanding aura.

"If #cpfc do hire Oliver Glasner, it’s a really interesting appointment," wrote Hatchard.

"Led Wolfsburg to Champions League qualification against the odds, and then won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt and also led them to the German Cup final.

oliver-glasner-tottenham-hotspur-antonio-conte

"Tactically Glasner is very adept. Presses smartly, and able to adjust that press when needed. Wants his teams to be physical, and is good at organising a defensive unit. Tends to have an honest relationship with his players, but is demanding.

"Fascinated to see what he does if he gets the job. Speaks excellent English, so no communication issues there. Rate him highly as a coach, but those above him would have to be prepared to have a demanding coach who would want a say on how the squad is shaped going forward."

It appears Parish and co may well have to concede some control if they opt for Glasner's appointment, or this may well be a move destined to eventually unravel.

    21Rodri (Manchester City)

Manchester City may have underwhelmed in Europe, with the defending champions bowing out in the quarter-finals, but Rodri's level never dropped after a Man of the Match-winning display against Red Star Belgrade on matchday one.

The classy Spaniard was involved in three goals in total from his position in front of the back four and, despite going out in the last eight, still occupies second spot in the midfielder rankings for passes completed – which tells you everything you need to know about his influence over Pep Guardiola's side.

    20David Raum (RB Leipzig)

David Raum remains criminally underrated despite being one of the best attacking left-backs in world football. The Germany international is an excellent outlet for RB Leipzig, always willing to get forward and cause havoc with his deadly deliveries into the area (only Joshua Kimmich managed more successful crosses across the entire competition).

Raum, who was Man of the Match in the group-stage win over Red Star Belgrade, racked up three assists in total, including one beauty for Willi Orban during a fantastic showing in the last-16 clash with Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu.

    19Ilkay Gundogan (Barcelona)

It was clear even before Ilkay Gundogan left Manchester City for Barcelona that he was still operating at an incredibly high level, and he showed no signs of slowing down in this season's Champions League.

The German was easily the best player in a Barcelona side that surprisingly made its way to the quarter-finals, with Gundogan ranking joint-second for assists, joint-fifth for chances created and joint-fourth for successful crosses. At 33, he remains an impressively penetrative player and boasts a winning mentality that many of his younger team-mates will learn an awful lot from.

    18Phil Foden (Manchester City)

The Premier League's Player of the Season wasn't quite as decisive in the Champions League, as seven of Phil Foden's eight direct goal contributions came against weak opposition in the group stage and last 16, but the England attacking midfielder was on target in Manchester City's thrilling 3-3 draw with Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.

A tremendous talent from a technical perspective, Foden also impressed with his link-up play, with no player managing more successful lay-offs (25).

Spurs make breakthrough in deal to sign Werner with option-to-buy shared

Tottenham Hotspur, with Heung-min Son taking part in the Asia Cup this month, have been left short when it comes to goalscoring options. And whilst Richarlison's rejuvenated form as of late has handed Ange Postecoglou a boost going forward, the Lilywhites have still reportedly dipped into the transfer market to add to their options in place of Son this month.

Given that the North London club sit just one point adrift of the Premier League's top four, it could be a move that's looked back on as crucial to Spurs' season, with a deal now reportedly agreed.

Tottenham transfer news

In what was a busy summer transfer window, Spurs did well to welcome the likes of James Maddison and Micky van de Ven. But what they arguably did not do was replace Harry Kane. Now that they've also lost Son to international duty, however, reports suggest that the Lilywhites have finally acted to hand Postecoglou an attacking boost this month. If the boss can get the best out of his reported pending arrival, the Spurs may just close the gap and qualify for the Champions League this season.

That pending arrival, of course, is Timo Werner. Previous reports suggested that Werner's Spurs move was on the verge of completion and now a fresh update suggests there's been a breakthrough. According to Sky Sports, Spurs have now agreed a deal to sign Werner on loan from RB Leipzig until the end of the season.

The former Chelsea man will seemingly get the chance to redeem himself in the Premier League after failing to make an impact at Stamford Bridge. The option to buy the forward reportedly stands at £15.5m in the summer, meaning that the Lilywhites could get themselves a bargain deal if they get the best out of Werner in the second half of the campaign.

"Special" Werner has the chance to earn Premier League redemption

Werner's Chelsea record doesn't exactly make for pretty reading, but under Postecoglou he has the chance to rediscover the form that saw him complete a move to Stamford Bridge in the first place. It could be a case of now or never for the German international too, given that he's lost his place in the Leipzig line-up and can't afford another period of his career to forget ahead of the Euros in the summer. Those at Spurs will be hoping to shock the rest of the league by landing a forgotten talent.

conor-gallagher-timo-werner-tottenham-opinion

During his time at Chelsea, the forward scored just 23 goals and made a further 21 assists in 89 games, but that didn't stop former boss Frank Lampard from handing Werner plenty of praise, saying:

"He [Werner] had a couple of chances and sometimes it doesn't go in for you, but I thought he was a real threat for us throughout. You need players of that quality to win game and the pace he travels with the ball is something special. He was so unselfish, and you rely on those players who are top-class."

Arteta could end Smith Rowe’s Arsenal career by signing £26m "big talent"

Mikel Arteta’s side picked up another three points last weekend, as they beat Brighton 2-0 at the Emirates.

This victory saw the Gunners return to the top of the Premier League with 39 points after 17 matches.

With the game won, the boss subbed on Emile Smith Rowe with seven minutes to go, which highlights the minimal opportunities he has had and potentially will receive this season.

Arsenal transfers latest – Jacob Ramsey

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal and Edu are looking to add another midfielder to their ranks, with Jacob Ramsey among those highly rated by the recruitment team.

The England U21 star is valued at £26m as per Football Transfers, but due to financial fair play guidelines, outgoings must occur to raise funds for any potential moves.

Eddie Nketiah and Aaron Ramsdale have attracted interest from other clubs, as per the same report, yet Smith Rowe could be forced out the door if an attack-minded midfielder like Ramsey is acquired.

How Jacob Ramsey compares to Emile Smith Rowe

After an excellent 13 goal contribution 2022/23 campaign and playing a key role in the group stage of England’s U21 Euros triumph, many expected Ramsey to push on and become one of the key players in Unai Emery’s side.

However, injuries in the quarterfinals of the tournament and a foot injury at the start of October have halted the midfielder's progress. He has only started one Premier League match this season.

Jacob-ramsey-villa

Immediately there are negative similarities to the aforementioned Smith Rowe; their injury history. However, with an ability to arrive late in the area and play in similar roles on the pitch, there are positives from this comparison.

Indeed, the Villa Youth Academy graduate is a dynamic, box-to-box midfielder who can comfortably play out wide, as an eight or as a ten – the latter positions are certainly like Arsenal's current number 10. Furthermore, Ramsey would bring athleticism and energy to any side, and at just 22 years old, he still has so much room for growth despite showing the maturity and class of a seasoned professional. It is no surprise that Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig labelled him a “big talent."

Below is a table that highlights Ramsey’s quality and style of play compared to midfielders across Europe's top leagues over the last year. It's certainly impressive reading from an attacking point of view.

As you can see, Ramsey is a player who likes to play on the fringe, impacting the game mainly in the final third.

He has instinctive goal-scoring traits that allow him to find space in and around the box to finish, which would be lethal at Arsenal given how many cutbacks Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli produce each game. The Villa man has similarities to Jude Bellingham in that sense.

The youngster is also an outlet of creativity, combining his eye for a pass and almost untouchable dribbling to ensure the ball reaches the opponent's box. The ability to connect play from midfield to attack has been almost perfected by Ramsey, and his capacity to evade a man and drive at the backline creates so much space for those around him. Just imagine how dangerous Arsenal would be with him, Martin Odegaard, and the aforementioned wingers in attack.

To top it off, Villa’s number 41 has a relentless defensive output, which makes him a well-rounded prospect. £26m is an absolute steal for such a talented individual who offers an endless amount of quality, and replacing Smith Rowe with him would be a stroke of genius, especially considering the latter's unfortunate injury history.

Clement must avoid Rangers swoop for £9m-rated "wizard", he’d be Boyd 2.0

Glasgow Rangers face a hectic run of fixtures over the next six weeks, as the Gers will play 12 matches and this includes two crucial European matches alongside a League Cup final.

Under Philippe Clement, the Gers have improved massively from the stagnation that occurred earlier on in the campaign under Michael Beale.

Over the next few weeks, they could establish themselves as contenders for the Premiership title along with securing a first League Cup trophy since 2011 and this should be incentive enough for the players.

It has been a disappointing 18 months for the Light Blues, but it looks as though they could be approaching some stability under the leadership of the former AS Monaco manager and this could soon lead to some sort of success.

Glasgow Rangers managerPhilippe Clement.

The next step for the Belgian will be to see which areas of his squad need improvement and turn to the January transfer window in order to add another player or two.

The Gers have been linked with a few names as the rumour mill circles ahead of the winter window, yet there is one name that has been thrown in the ring for a spectacular return to the club just months after leaving for nothing – Ryan Kent.

Rangers transfer news – Ryan Kent

According to TEAMtalk, Kent has been made available for a loan move this January by his current club Fenerbahçe, as the winger has failed to settle in Turkey since moving there in the summer.

English sides Leeds United and Bournemouth lead the chase for the 27-year-old, yet the report also indicates that the Gers are another team who are keeping tabs on the former Liverpool gem.

Former Rangers winger Ryan Kent.

A fee of around £6m has also been mentioned as the Turkish club look to cash in on a player they secured for nothing a few short months ago.

According to Football Transfers, he is currently worth €10.7m (£9m) and this suggests Fenerbahçe are keen on letting him leave by any means possible.

The former Gers “wizard” – as so lauded by ex-teammate Leon Balogun – has made 14 appearances this term, yet has scored only once and a move in January would offer him a fresh start.

Clement should avoid luring him back to Ibrox, however, as the club have moved on, and it is unlikely that he could offer more on the left wing than Abdallah Sima.

Not many players have returned to the club and enjoyed a good second spell and Kent could become Kris Boyd 2.0, who returned for a single campaign but underperformed.

Kris Boyd struggled in his second spell at Rangers

The former Ibrox hitman enjoyed a goal-laden four-year spell between 2006 and 2010 following his arrival from Kilmarnock.

Rangers: Alex McLeish played a blinder with Kris Boyd

Former Rangers manager Alex McLeish played a blinder with the signing of Kris Boyd.

Across four and a half seasons, the striker scored 121 goals while winning two Premiership titles and a handful of domestic cups, as the Gers returned to the summit of Scottish football under the leadership of the late great Walter Smith.

Boyd departed in the summer of 2010 for a fresh challenge, but spells in England, Turkey and America failed to live up to expectations and after 18 months back at his boyhood club, the forward rejoined Rangers in 2014.

The club were looking to gain promotion back to the top flight, but the season as a whole turned out to be a disaster and Boyd failed to hit his stride.

He managed to score just three league goals in 29 matches and the Gers lost in the playoff final to Motherwell, thus having to spend another year in the second tier.

Signing Kent this January could see Clement repeat this dismal move by Rangers nearly a decade ago and it's best if he is avoided.

Sima is performing marvellously on the left wing and has proven to be a serious danger in the final third.

How does Abdallah Sima compare to Ryan Kent

Beale signed the winger on a season-long loan deal from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer, and it has turned out to be a shrewd piece of business.

The 22-year-old has featured in all but one match for the club so far this term, scoring nine goals and grabbing one assist in the process, as his pace and clinical nature have proven to be a nightmare for opposition defenders.

Compare this goal contribution tally to Kent – who has registered just three this term – and it is clear why the former Gers gem should be avoided during the upcoming transfer window.

Sima also ranks second across the current squad for goals and assists in the top flight (six), along with ranking third for shots per game (2.9) and second for successful dribbles per game (1.7), suggesting that he is a key threat out wide for the Light Blues in the league this season.

In comparison, Kent currently ranks outside the top 15 in the Fenerbahçe squad for goals and assists (zero) in the Turkish Super Lig, while also ranking 12th for shots per game (0.6) and seventh for successful dribbles per game (0.7), clearly failing to demonstrate his abilities in the top flight as he has struggled to make a proper impact.

Although it looks as though any potential move would be a loan deal, what kind of message would this send out to the members of the current squad who have shone for the first team this term?

Abdallah Sima

Kent underperformed last season at the Gers – scoring just three times – and he moved on with the best wishes of the team and hierarchy, who were looking to make a fresh start.

He hasn’t performed better than Sima throughout the first few months of the current campaign and with Rabbi Matondo also going to come back from injury, Kent surely wouldn’t be assured of serious game should he return to Glasgow.

Some things are better left as they were – as was evident in the case of Boyd – even though at his peak, Kent was a wonderful player who could change the course of a match with a pass or piece of skill which led to a goal.

His final season didn’t go as anticipated and that will be a big regret. But re-signing him after just a few months away is a move which won't end well and thus should be avoided.

'A bit like David Beckham' – Wrexham star Ollie Palmer tipped to head into modelling and earn up to £250,000 by brand expert

Wrexham star Ollie Palmer was compared to style icon David Beckham and has been backed to earn up to £250,000 by trying his luck in modelling.

Since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took charge of the club in November 2020, the Welsh outfit has been in the spotlight and their on-field successes, including securing successive promotions to reach League One ahead of the 2024-25 season, have opened doors for commercial opportunity for the players off the field. One such player basking in newfound fame is Palmer who is set for a cameo appearance in the upcoming Marvel film, "Deadpool & Wolverine" with his club's co-owner at the helm.

  • Getty/GOAL

    WHAT HAS BEEN SAID

Brand and culture expert Nick Ede attributes the players' enhanced visibility and earning potential to the influence of the A-list owners and the popularity of the docuseries "Welcome To Wrexham."

Nick told : “Ryan and Rob have made a massive impact, all eyeballs have been on the club because of them and their huge TV show. It’s enabled them to give a voice to the players but also gifted them a bigger following, meaning players can get other big opportunities. We have seen Ollie get a cameo or an extra role in the new Marvel film but that’s just the beginning. Some of the standout stars will make a lot of money from endorsements and deals."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

From securing lucrative endorsement deals to venturing into the world of modelling, players are poised to leverage their celebrity status for financial gain. Palmer's cameo in a major Hollywood production and the launch of his own brand, WXM Clothing, underscore the vast opportunities that lie beyond the football pitch for Wrexham's rising stars.

Crucially, Reynolds and McElhenney's endorsement of WXM Clothing on social media platforms, boasting a collective following of nearly 54 million, amplifies Palmer's visibility and sets the stage for further commercial success.

Nick believes that Palmer's trajectory mirrors that of iconic figures like Beckham and added: "Having the guys wearing Ollie’s actual brand is a great way of endorsing what he does and will definitely help him to build his brand. He is one of the players who ticks every box and is a star in the making, whether he carries on in Hollywood, who knows, but I suspect he will be endorsing lots of different things. I can see him doing modelling and it could lead to him becoming a bit like David Beckham.”

    WHAT NEXT FOR PALMER?

Palmer's multifaceted talents and growing celebrity status position him as a potential trailblazer in the realm of football and entertainment. With endorsements, modelling contracts, and other opportunities on the horizon, Nick opined that the player could "up to £250,000" as he grows substantially in the fashion market.

“Ollie is someone brands are going to want to jump on now while his star is on the rise because he will make money for them and will be loyal to them. But also he will make a lot of money for himself," he said.

“I could see someone like Ollie, who is a rugged, sexy man, doing an aftershave or a fragrance launch, which could demand good fees of around £100,000 up to £250,000 as he becomes a bigger star.”

St Lucia WWT20 fixtures could be moved to Antigua to combat washout fears

The ICC are understood to be looking at a relocation of group stage fixtures to Antigua, in response to torrential rainfall on the island

Melinda Farrell10-Nov-2018The ICC are considering moving Women’s World T20 group games from St Lucia to Antigua because of heavy rains and a grim forecast for the next week. The first St Lucia match of the tournament between England and Sri Lanka was rained off and thunderstorms are forecast until at least next Wednesday. The forecast in Guyana is, by contrast, fine and sunny which means if more games on St Lucia are called off the tournament – which is being played for the most part in separate groups on each island – would be vastly lopsided in matches completed.ESPNcricinfo understands that, while no formal discussions have taken place with teams or the host boards, and while there has only been one game cancelled so far, the ICC is exploring the logistical issues involved in relocating at least part of the group stage to ensure matches. Those logistic factors are significant and may be impossible to overcome. Television broadcast equipment, including the main satellite, would have to be flown between the islands and that would necessitate a charter to guarantee it wouldn’t be held in customs. The broadcasters would also have to agree to changes in the schedule.Other issues include the teams accepting the relocation, the wickets in Antigua being prepared for extra games and the cost of charter flights and availability of hotels. While officials are not yet panicking and remain hopeful the forecast will improve, ESPNcricinfo understands if the logistical problems could be easily resolved, the decision would be made sooner rather than later. If all remaining matches in St Lucia were to be washed out, then England would still qualify for the knockouts by virtue of being second seeds in their group, behind West Indies, who beat Bangladesh in the group’s opening fixture on Friday.Ironically, a relocation could end up counting against England, given that their second fixture, against Bangladesh on Monday, could come too soon to avoid another washout. If that were to happen, England could need to beat West Indies in their final group-stage match to reach the semi-finals.Heather Knight, England’s captain, said that the Gros Islet outfield was the wettest she had ever encountered in her career, and gave a cautious welcome to the prospect of a relocation.”If it meant we got the games in then potentially,” Knight said. “It hasn’t stopped raining since we arrived. We are hopeful that it will stop raining but if that is an option, it is up to the ICC to decide obviously, not me.”She was also critical of the lack of facilities available to her team, in the absence of any opportunity for middle practice.”At some point we will get some cricket in, whether it is a five-over smash, and we’re going to have to be ready,” she said. “We are probably going to have to be slightly inventive to keep the girls going. Cricket is hard to play without facilities.”

Rangers set for significant cash injection as record SPFL figures emerge

Rangers have been handed a financial boost after a significant update from the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers transfer news

The Gers have had a fairly tumultuous year on the pitch, with Michael Beale's spell as manager a disappointing one, leading to his sacking earlier in the season. Philippe Clement has come in in his place, and the early signs have been positive, with Rangers seemingly firing in all competitions since the Belgian's timely arrival.

For the team to continue heading in the right direction, however, new signings could be required during the January transfer window, adding more quality and freshness to the squad, with Clement reportedly set to make as many as three new additions.

A host of players have been linked with a move to Ibrox, with Rangers keen on signing Everton defender Ben Godfrey, seeing him as a top target to come in and improve the defence. Meanwhile, Aberdeen ace Bojan Miovski has also been tipped to join the Gers.

While there is plenty of focus on the team, a key claim has now emerged regarding the club as a whole – one that will no doubt please supporters.

Rangers handed financial boost

According to a fresh update from Football Insider, the SPFL enjoyed record-breaking revenue in 2022/23, with the eye-watering figures revealed:

"Rangers are set for a financial injection from the SPFL after they posted record-breaking revenue in 2022/23, Football Insider can reveal. The Scottish Professional Football League posted their updated accounts via Companies House for the fiscal year up to 31 May with a turnover of £42.6million.

"It was a record-breaking turnover figure for the Scottish Professional Football League and marked a £3million increase from the year prior."

The money will be distributed out to all clubs in the top four tiers of Scottish football, and while the exact amount heading to Ibrox remains undisclosed, the report claims it will be a record setting sum. It means that a few extra funds should be available for Clement to spend on new signings in January.

8. Ryan Kent

9. Michael Mols

10. Gaby Amato

What this also does is help persuade potential signings to come to the club, showing that the league is moving in a positive direction and should continue to be able to compete in European competitions, something players are typically drawn to.

Someone like Godfrey for example could jump at the opportunity to earn more regular playing time at Ibrox, and while there's still no chance of the Gers paying him the £76,000 per week he earns at Everton, every little helps.
