Conrad, who is a podcast host for CBS Sports Network, co-hosted with Marsch on the show prior to the American accepting the Canada job.

Speaking to media at TST ahead of kicking off the tournament with his squad Kwik Goal FC, Conrad revealed that he asked Marsch, his longtime friend, to be the coach of his squad earlier this year – although he believes that as offers rolled in for the ex-Leeds United coach, TST was in the back of his mind.

“So before he left to take the Canadian job, we asked him to coach here, our team,” Conrad said. ”He was thinking about it, but I think he started to get hot and heavy with some offers, whether it was national team or at the club level.”

After being sacked by Leeds United in February 2023, Marsch has been a free agent working with CBS Sports as a studio analyst, podcast host and freelance reporter.

The American has been offered jobs across Europe, from England to Italy – and even interviewed with the USMNT last summer in between Gregg Berhalter's stints as manager.

Now he is focusing on Copa America, as well as the path to co-hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup for Les Rogues.

WHAT CONRAD SAID

"I think he’s gonna do great,' said Conrad of Marsch's appointment to the national team role in Canada. 'I think [Marsch] knows what he’s walking into, I think he’s a fantastic human and that will show in spades.

"Sometimes that's what you want as coach, to really test your group to see what you're really working with. Let's face it he's in there for World Cup.

"So this month poses such an opportunity to see what your players are up to against the world's elite."

Onana transfer boost as Edu opens talks for January signing at Arsenal

An "exciting" World Cup player has his eyes on a move to Arsenal in the January transfer window as sporting director Edu and co reportedly take action.

Arsenal operating under financial restrictions

According to reliable news outlets, manager Mikel Arteta wants winter signings, but Arsenal will be forced to operate with a slightly limited budget due to FFP restrictions (The Independent).

Indeed, after spending north of £200 million in the summer window, with over half of that going on club-record signing Declan Rice, it appears Arsenal will have to carefully hand-pick which players to move for this month. Fabrizio Romano, commenting on the Gunners' transfer activity last week, said he thinks that Arsenal are most likely to sign a new right-back in January.

“A new full-back for Arsenal? Yes it is a possibility, it is a possibility for Arsenal to bring in a new full-back in January," said Romano on Kick.

"They have to see what opportunity they can find, if it’s a loan deal, but Arsenal are exploring options in that position, they are in the full-backs market, I can confirm that, there is a possibility, there is a chance, we will have to see, but I think it’s a possibility."

They had been linked with the possible signing of a midfielder, as Thomas Partey has barely played so far this season due to injury problems.

The Ghanaian, who missed out on a place in his country's AFCON squad due to a reoccurring hamstring problem, has also been tipped to leave Arsenal in recent months.

While Arsenal are slightly shackled by FFP, and will be limited regarding what they can do, a new report this week by Belgian transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri suggests they could still bring in a midfielder.

Edu opens Arsenal talks for Onana who is "keen"

Indeed, according to the reporter, that man could well be Everton star Amadou Onana. The Belgium international, who played at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, is a player of real interest as Arsenal open talks to sign Onana.

Tavolieri adds that the 22-year-old is also "keen" on a move to the Emirates Stadium before January 31.

Onana has been a mainstay under Sean Dyche this season, playing 16 league games, with former Belgium manager Roberto Martinez once calling him a "really exciting footballer".

Kane Williamson’s unbeaten 200 in the first Test against Bangladesh in Hamilton, which New Zealand won by an innings and 52 runs, has propelled him to a career-high 915 points in the ICC rankings. That puts him only marginally behind Virat Kohli, who is at No. 1 on the table, but unlike Williamson, who has two more Test matches against Bangladesh in the ongoing series, the India captain has no long-format cricket lined up in the immediate future.Williamson headlined a remarkable New Zealand batting performance in Hamilton, where they rode on his second Test double-century and centuries from openers Jeet Raval and Tom Latham to score their highest Test total of 715 for 6 declared in their only innings.Starting the Test with 897 points against his name, Williamson moved up to within striking distance of the top spot for the second time in his career – he was No. 1 briefly in late 2015.The 915 points Williamson currently has are also the highest ever for a New Zealander in Test cricket. Richard Hadlee had gone past the 900 mark – the only other player from the country to do so – in the bowlers’ chart during his career, getting to 909.In other updates, Latham has moved up to No. 11 among batsmen, while Raval has gone to No. 33 after hitting his maiden Test century. Trent Boult and Tim Southee remained in the top ten among the bowlers, with Neil Wagner moving up to 11th spot. For Bangladesh, the brightest sparks in the Test were Tamim Iqbal, who scored 126 and 74, and Mahmudullah and Soumya Sarkar, who hit 146 and 149 respectively in the second innings. Tamim slotted in at No. 25 as a result, Mahmudullah at No. 40 and Soumya at No. 67.

Spurs could repeat Maddison trick with "magnificent" Todibo alternative

It's been quite the ride down the N17 this season, with Ange Postecoglou's summer appointment proving to be a masterstroke after excellent early-season form threw Tottenham Hotspur to the front of the Premier League table.

Few expected such a swift ascent, with Tottenham lumbering to an eighth-placed finish in the English top-flight and consequently missing out on European football entirely.

Such woes were compounded when Postecoglou's pre-season preparations took a big blow as Spurs' club record scorer Harry Kane completed a transfer to Bayern Munich, having spent the duration of his professional career at Tottenham.

But it mattered not and the Lilywhites marched into some sublime form that got English football chattering over the possibility of an unlikely title challenge.

This was derailed by a recent slump, now ended, and while the five-match winless run was unacceptable, terrible luck with injuries and suspensions proved to be the club's undoing, and Postecoglou will now attempt to rectify this by bolstering effectively in January.

Spurs transfer news – Tosin Adarabioyo

The Spurs manager has revealed that his priority is to sign a centre-back this winter, with £43m summer signing Micky van de Ven picking up a hamstring injury back in November and remaining sidelined to date – it was this injury that had such a detrimental effect on the progress.

Multiple options have been discussed, with recent reports suggesting that the London club could be back in for Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo, having waged transfer battle against AS Monaco in the summer for his signature, with both sides ultimately failing.

Tosin Adarabioyo for Fulham

And now, according to the Sun, Tottenham have been boosted by Adarabioyo's declaration that he will not sign a new deal with the Craven Cottage side, with his contract expiring in June.

Why Spurs are interested in Tosin Adarabioyo

Having shipped an embarrassing 63 goals in the league last term, Tottenham needed to respond emphatically and indeed did so with the capture of Van de Ven, who formed a fearsome partnership with Cristian Romero to restore the backline's solidity.

But his injury has illuminated the fragility of Postecoglou's team and a player such as Adarabioyo could provide adequate cover to alleviate the burden on the starring defensive axis.

Securing his signature could be a repeat of the deal to sign James Maddison, aged 27, from Leicester City in the summer, improving the ranks at the expense of a Premier League rival.

Indeed, one of Postecoglou's first ports of call after arriving from Celtic was the £40m acquisition of Maddison, one of English football's most influential playmakers.

He's definitely lived up to the plate, winning August's Premier League Player of the Month award and posting three goals and five assists from 11 matches.

Sadly, like Van de Ven, Maddison is sidelined until the new year in what has been a definitive factor behind Spurs' startling loss of form, but the mere fact that he plies his trade in Tottenham white is a galvanising thought for his teammates.

Adarabioyo could recreate this effect from a defensive standpoint, having been described as a "magnificent" player by writer Muhammed Butt.

Tosin Adarabioyo's style of play

Adarabioyo is a towering titan with impressive command in the rearguard, and having amassed 113 appearances for Fulham, he has been instrumental in the promotion push and subsequent cementation of Premier League status.

This season, as per Sofascore, the Englishman has only played five times due to injury but has started the past three games and scored in Fulham's 5-0 romp over West Ham United.

Completing 83% of his passes, the 26-year-old has also averaged 2.8 clearances per game and won 71% of his contested duels, proving his worth as one of the most underrated defenders in the division despite the lack of match action this season.

tosin-adarabioyo-tottenham-transfer-news-premier-league

As per FBref, the one-time Citizen ranks among the top 19% of centre-halfs across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for progressive passes, the top 10% for shots taken, the top 1% for clearances and the top 15% for aerial wins per 90.

The 6 foot 5 titan would be a credit to Tottenham's blooming project and would be the perfect replacement for Eric Dier, who is set to depart at the end of his contract next summer.

Given that he is a former Manchester City youth product too, it's clear that Adarabioyo boasts a ball-playing proficiency to align with Postecoglou's fluid, fast-paced style.

Adarabioyo, in short, would be a terrific addition and whether Spurs sign him on a cut-price deal in January or opt to offer him a contract at the end of the campaign remains to be seen at this stage, but he could be the perfect alternative for Jean-Clair Todibo.

Why Spurs are interested in Jean-Clair Todibo

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have opened negotiations with French side OGC Nice to discuss the possible transfer of Todibo, and while he is top of the list, it is stressed that it will not be an easy one to get over the line, with Manchester United also interested.

A fee of around £35m would be enough for Nice to consider his January sale, but with reinforcements needed across multiple positions, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy may be dissuaded from parting with such a sum.

As such, drawing up plans to sign Adarabioyo appears to be a prudent and resourceful move, with Marco Silva recently heralding the player's "special" skill set after Fulham advanced to the Carabao Cup semi-finals after defeating Everton.

It would perhaps be something of a blow to miss out on Todibo, however, with the Frenchman ranking among the top 8% of positional peers for passes attempted, the top 5% for successful take-ons and the top 7% for tackles made per 90, but then it would be a foolhardy approach to place all of their eggs in one basket.

Therefore, Adarabioyo would be an appropriate alternative, and who knows, given that he is a Premier League-proven player, he could even end up being the best deal to make.

Slot has conveyed his eagerness to make the move to Liverpool, expressing confidence that an agreement could be reached between the two clubs with a compensation package nearing £13 million being discussed. And Klopp has welcomed Slot's public declaration of interest in taking over the reins at Anfield and expressed his appreciation for the style of football implemented by the Dutch manager at Feyenoord.

Speaking to reporters, Klopp said: "I'm not involved in the process, but I like a lot about it if he is the one and wants to take the job. I like the way his team plays football. All the things I hear about him as a guy – a good guy. Some people I know, know him. I don't know him, but some people who know him say he's a good guy. I like that a lot. So a good coach, a good guy. Looking forward for the club, if he is the solution, if he is the man, I am more than happy."

When pressed on how he would brief Slot about the job, Klopp added: "Best job in the world. Best club in the world, and it helps, obviously, with not finishing on a high, it looks like. Great job, great team, fantastic people. [Slot] 'would' [Klopp makes quote marks sign with his fingers] be taking a really interesting job."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Reflecting on Liverpool's recent defeat to Everton, Klopp admitted to feeling a profound sense of disappointment and frustration and accepted that it is now a two-horse race for the title between ARsenal & Manchester City.

“I can’t remember ever being as disappointed and frustrated as I was after the Everton game, I lost a lot of games in my life but it was special we were not there," he said.

"I cannot say I think they still feel us around, I am pretty sure Arsenal and City now see it as a two-horse race, they have to say something else publicly but I don’t expect them to lose two games.”

Barcelona were knocked out of the competition by Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, despite holding a 3-2 aggregate lead from the first leg and then taking an early lead in the return fixture. PSG went on to win 4-1 following Ronald Araujo's red card for the hosts, sealing a 6-4 win on aggregate to progress to the semi-finals.

The defeat sparked an angry reaction from Barca supporters and Cancelo has revealed that he has received many "cruel" messages on social media, with many outraged followers wishing death on his family and unborn child.

WHAT CANCELO SAID

He told : "People say all sorts. There are comments on Instagram wishing death upon my daughter who's not even been born yet. They would not say it to me face, because we would have a problem, but in the comments they write what they want. They're offensive to my partner, my daughter, our unborn baby. It's a cruel world and you have to know how to live with it. I know how to, but I just don't know what to say anymore. Wishing death upon a baby is really serious. People don't think about the person behind the footballer they see on the television. We are humans, too. We are just the same."

Cancelo will hope to shake off the horrors of the online threats to help fire Barcelona to victory against Real Madrid this weekend. Eight points separate the Clasico rivals heading into the clash at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday.

Tottenham now look like Premier League favourites to sign £60m "machine"

Tottenham look like Premier League favourites to sign one club's £60 million "machine" for manager Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs lacking squad depth

A disastrous Monday night for Spurs has seriously brought attention to Postecoglou's lack of depth behind his starting eleven. A 4-1 defeat to Chelsea, their first league loss of the season, was made much worse by injuries to key duo James Maddison and Micky van de Ven.

Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie will also be suspended following their red cards, leaving the Tottenham manager seriously short of options. Postecoglou was even forced to play both Eric Dier and Emerson Royal as the centre-back pairing in a bold high line last night. It will be very intriguing to see how the Australian sets up against Wolves this weekend, but in a saving grace for Spurs, another international break looms after their trip to Molineux on Saturday.

Tottenham transfer plans for 2024

The January transfer window represents an opportunity for Tottenham to plug serious gaps in Postecoglou's squad, with recent reports suggesting that Spurs are targeting a new defender. A new midfielder may join Tottenham in the winter as well, while there are some suggestions that new sporting director Johan Lange is weighing up a striker to replace Harry Kane.

One of the rumoured targets for that role is Feyenoord star Santiago Gimenez, who has scored a brilliant 13 goals in 11 Eredivisie starts for the Dutch side already this season. Indeed, Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig has even called him a "machine". His manager Arne Slot, speaking to ESPN (via Spurs Web) in September, refused to rule out a mid-season exit for the Mexico international.

“He is doing well. That cannot be denied. The great thing about Feyenoord is that, last summer, we were able to spend money on replacements. So we have a broad bench, also in case one leaves later," said Slot on Gimenez.

“It is not yet January. I do not know whether [Gimenez] is planning to leave in January. But you never know. In any case, we already have a very good striker in [Ayase] Ueda.”

Spurs now Premier League favourites for Gimenez

Journalist Dean Jones, sharing an update on Gimenez's future to GiveMeSport, says that a host of clubs across Europe and England are targeting the striker. However, when it comes to teams from England, Spurs look like the favourites for Gimenez over London rivals West Ham and Fulham.

Feyenoord strikerSantiago Gimenez.

"Santiago Gimenez is causing all sorts of fuss at the moment," said Jones.

"A lot of recruitment teams across the Premier League are tracking his situation. From what I have been able to gather so far, a move to Tottenham would be a lot more plausible than a move to West Ham or Fulham because this is a player that is already used to the Champions League and feels he has a place at the very top of the game.

"But there are big teams that Spurs are also going to have to win over if they make their interest firm, including Real Madrid. I’m told they are more likely than Barcelona as a landing spot at this moment and, when we start talking about these sorts of things, it’s pretty clear why a club like Fulham might have their work cut out to sign him.

"He’s also going to cost big money – I think somewhere towards £60million. But Feyenoord don’t even want to talk about that until the season is over."

Wolves’ Santo signing drained the club £8.3m per goal

Wolverhampton Wanderers are a prime example of how quickly things can change in football with the club now in 13th position in the Premier League table following a five-match unbeaten streak.

Prior to Gary O'Neil's arrival, the Old Gold were in freefall, especially across the summer as the club were hit with Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations and sold some of their star names, including Ruben Neves and Matheus Nunes, to balance the books.

Subsequently, O'Neil was presented with a cash-strapped squad and many envisaged Wolves struggling towards the bottom, however, the Englishman has masterminded a remarkable turnaround.

The feel-good factor around Molineux is currently at the best it has been since Nuno Espirito Santo was in charge of the club and, although his spell in the Midlands was largely successful having qualified for the Europa League and brought in an abundance of Portuguese stars, including Neves, Rui Patricio, Joao Moutinho and Diogo Jota, he was also presented with challenges.

One of those was justifying the large sums of money spent on disappointing talent and while the club-record £35.6m acquisition of Fabio Silva may go down as the worst of the lot, Patrick Cutrone's arrival in 2019 certainly runs him close.

The fee Wolves paid for Patrick Cutrone

In the summer of 2019, Wolves flexed their financial muscles on several stars and one of those brought in was AC Milan striker Patrick Cutrone for a deal worth up to £23m.

£33m

£23m

£17m

£15.6m

£12m

The 21-year-old ace was regarded as the next Italian prodigy and this was accentuated further by the praise directed towards him.

Gennaro Gattuso, who was Milan's manager at the time, likened him to Rossoneri legend Filippo Inzaghi after his brace against SPAL in February 2018.

During his full breakout year in the 2017/18 campaign, Cutrone was threatening to deliver on the hype surrounding his talents as he fired in ten goals and four assists in 28 Serie A appearances, including six goal contributions in nine Europa League outings that term.

He was even lauded by Gattuso for his "venom" in front of goal during that season and although his form tailed off after that, scoring just nine times in 43 matches for Milan, this did not stop Wolves from snapping him up.

Patrick Cutrone bled Wolves dry financially

If Wolves were expecting Cutrone to rediscover his killer instinct in front of goal that saw him rise to stardom in Italy, unfortunately, Nuno Santo would be left disappointed with how the move turned out.

Former Wolves striker Patrick Cutrone.

In 23 appearances across two seasons at the club, the 6-foot marksman only notched up three goals, and considering he was reportedly the club's fourth-highest earner on £62k-per-week, pocketing more than the likes of Diogo Jota, Ruben Neves and Raul Jimenez, the Italian seriously bled the club dry.

Over those two years, he only spent around seven months and one week at the club and not on loan elsewhere, which meant that he earned around 29 weeks' worth of those £62k-per-week wages, with it unclear as to how the wage split worked between Wolves and his loan clubs.

From the £23m expenditure to bring him to the Midlands to the £1.8m he reportedly collected in wages during those 29 weeks, Wolves spent an eye-watering total of £24.8m to maintain Cutrone during his two seasons at the club, one of which was spent on loan at La Liga side Valencia.

When you divide that total that the Old Gold threw away to accommodate the Italian by what he gave back in goals, it works out that the forward cost the club a whopping £8.3m per goal.

While Wolves may have thought that they struck gold with the signing of Cutrone, his spell turned into a nightmare, departing the club in 2022 to join hometown club Como in Serie B, which further emphasises the 25-year-old flop's rapid downfall.

Pundit slams "stupid" Rangers player after news he’s heard recently

To say it has been a turbulent time at Rangers as of late would be an understatement. Following the Gers' poor start to the season, which included a Champions League thrashing at the hands of PSV Eindhoven and a disappointing Old Firm derby defeat against Celtic, Michael Beale was relieved of his duties. This allowed for the arrival of Philippe Clement, who now has the task of turning things around at Ibrox.

The former AS Monaco manager's first task must be to put an end to the negative noise surrounding his side, turning morale around and defeats into victories in the process. One thing that will not have helped towards achieving that task are the comments recently made by Nicolas Raskin.

What did Nicolas Raskin say?

The latest Raskin transfer news has been initiated by the player himself, who commented on his future ambitions. And whilst the chaos of Rangers' poor start continues to unfold at Ibrox, such comments will only add fuel to the flames burning the Gers' slowly fading title chances in the Scottish Premiership.

Raskin told La Tribune, via Football Scotland: "I am now at 98 games for Standard, surely it would be nice to one day round that 100 mark there. One day I want to play in the Premier League, but I don’t put pressure on myself. I have a plan in my head, Rangers is just a stage in that. Rangers was the best choice at that time to realise my plan."

Reacting to the news, Frank McAvennie slammed Raskin, telling Football Insider: "You cannot say that, the fans will not accept it, shut your mouth. Rangers are not anybody’s stepping stone. He has got to start doing it on the pitch before he starts mouthing off because if you can’t do it in Scotland then you are certainly not going to do it down in England.

"Prove on the pitch that you are better than what you think you are, show the fans that you care about them and the club and then the fans will be behind you. If you are not doing it on the pitch then it is just stupid, the clubs in England are not going to want you if you are not doing it in Scotland.“

How has Nicolas Raskin performed this season?

Glasgow Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin.

When it comes to Raskin's stats, he has certainly been one of the consistent features for Rangers this season, starting in all but two games in the Scottish Premiership. With the Gers struggling, however, that stat may not reflect too well on the 22-year-old, who has one assist in 11 appearances in all competitions so far in the current campaign.

His recent comments won't exactly please new boss Clement, either. The recent arrival will have plenty of important decisions to make, and the less negative headlines surrounding his players, the better, making Raskin's words all the more frustrating. From now on, the midfielder may look to get his talking done on the pitch, rather than causing controversy away from it, perhaps avoiding the wrath of McAvennie and other media members in the process.
