Steve Bruce must urge Mike Ashley to sanction a January swoop for Liverpool winger Xherdan Shaqiri amid claims of interest from Newcastle United.

What’s the word?

According to The Telegraph, Bruce would love to strengthen the Toon first-team in the winter market with the additions of three quality arrivals as he looks to finalise deals for a new box-to-box midfielder, full-back and creative wide forward.

Ashley is expected to grant Bruce his wishes should the Magpies manage to offload a handful of those currently deemed surplus to requirements, otherwise favour the arrival of one key player on loan.

Among the candidates touted for a mid-season switch to St. James’ Park is Liverpool winger Shaqiri, who has seen his future at Anfield thrown into chaos with Jurgen Klopp’s champions open to selling this month but hesitant to cash in after Diogo Jota sustained a knee injury.

Shaqiri has been linked with moves away from Merseyside for the past year, with AS Roma and Sevilla told it would cost them €30m (£26.5m) to finalise a deal 12-months ago, while Fenerbahce are expected to revive their interest after Klopp called off a loan move at the eleventh hour last summer.

The Swiss international also weighed up a Bundesliga return in the off-season after an injury-plagued 2019/20 season, only to endure further struggles with a muscular issue seeing the 29-year-old make only his third Premier League appearance of the campaign away to Newcastle last month.

Should Newcastle target Shaqiri?

Liverpool will likely consider selling Shaqiri in the January market should they receive a suitable offer, with it believed the £14.5m-rated attacker is seen as a player the Reds’ can use to fund a move for a new defender.

If a deal for Shaqiri is there to be had, Bruce must urge Ashley to sanction a swoop to solve his search for a creative wide option with Newcastle’s current squad often failing to produce the needed touch in the final third.

Matt Ritchie has provided a key pass every 30 minutes when fielded in a wide midfield role, which is enough for the 31-year-old to lead the charts for Magpies players who have played over 100 Premier League minutes in a wide forward role this season, per WhoScored.

Allan Saint-Maximin has so far offered a key pass every 57.5 minutes, before Bruce sees a drastic drop to Miguel Almiron (100.5), Jacob Murphy (123.5), Joelinton (126.5) and Jeff Hendrick (422).

Shaqiri may hardly have featured thus far this season as a result of his continued injuries, yet provided an assist in his top-flight campaign debut with a smart pass through to Jota against West Ham United in October.

Former England international Darren Bent continues to be a vivid advocate of the attacker’s talents, too, which would be more than welcome at St. James’ Park this winter.

“He’s still a very, very good player, he can still make things happen, he’s got a great left foot, great technique and there are going to be clubs out there that would love to have him in their squad,” Bent told Football Insider.

It’s not very often we say this, but Steve Parish has a rare chance to give Crystal Palace their dream attack for years to come, if recent reports are to be believed.

What’s the story?

According to Sport, as quoted by Sport Witness, Roy Hodgson’s side have entered the race to sign Mariano Diaz from Crystal Palace.

It’s claimed that Diaz has refused to leave the Santiago Bernabeu for the past two seasons despite being considered surplus to requirements by Zinedine Zidane.

However, he could be offered a way out of Madrid in the not too distant future, with several clubs from across Europe vying for his signature.

Palace will face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Everton and West Ham, as well as French Ligue 1 side Lyon for his services.

Dream attack

Wilfried Zaha is the club’s top scorer in all competitions so far this season, but Hodgson still needs a prolific striker who can shoulder the burden of scoring goals, as Michy Batshuayi has been unable to hit the ground running at Selhurst Park. Diaz is a player who can do precisely just that.

The 27-year-old burst onto the scene at Lyon, where he scored 21 goals and supplied 6 assists in all competitions, before he returned to the Spanish capital in 2018.

Whilst Batshuayi is also right-footed and plays on the right, Diaz, who is the same age as the Belgium international, is a natural goal threat all over the pitch who seems to have no problems at all finding the back of the net.

In just 42 minutes in La Liga last season, he scored one goal, whilst he averaged 1.2 shots per game, via WhoScored. By comparison, Batshuayi has failed to score in the Premier League so far this season, despite the fact he is averaging one shot per game, as per WhoScored.

Meanwhile Zaha has managed 2.3 shots and 1.6 key passes per game in the top flight this term, outscoring the Belgian striker by five goals so far.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas once lauded Diaz as a “powerful” finisher, saying “in the opinion of Zinedine and Karim, he is a player of a very high level. He’s young, powerful and very ambitious. It would be a great coup for Lyon to sign him, and there would not be too much expected of him.”

A strong counter-attacking threat who likes to play short passes and shoot from distance, he could be the final piece of the puzzle to complete Palace’s attack for the years to come, especially when you consider the fact that he would be able to combine with summer signing Eberechi Eze at almost free will, which would give the Eagles another attacking option, as they have often been accused of being too one-dimensional in recent seasons.

However, Sport suggest the outcast won’t come cheap, as Real are refusing to sell him for anything less than their original £25m valuation, whilst he reportedly receives wages worth £142,000-per-week. Whether or not Parish will dip into his pockets remains to be seen.

Liverpool put in a hard shift at Anfield to keep their unbeaten home streak alive last night. Despite conceding through an early Pablo Fornals goal, the Reds were resilient enough to keep their heads and grab the win.

A VAR decision against Diogo Jota looked like it could paint the rest of game’s dynamic but the Portuguese target man was on song yet again with a goal to mark his third in five league appearances. Jurgen Klopp’s newest signing was undoubtedly the man of the hour, but the whole team rallied together to produce a solid performance.

One man especially who went under the radar was Gini Wijnaldum in the middle of the park. Despite being without playmakers Naby Keita and Thiago, the Dutchman was able to fill in and pull the strings from midfield.

Starting the match alongside Jordan Henderson and Curtis Jones, the 29-year-old did well to trouble West Ham and create chances for the Reds.

According to Sofascore, Wijnaldum maintained a 97% passing rate, won 8/10 of his attempted duels and was successful in 100% of his dribbles and long balls. He was also the most fouled player in the game, highlighting how much the Irons struggled to deal with him in the engine room.

The £75,000-a-week midfielder is into the last 12 months of his current deal with Liverpool, but he is showing no signs of lowering his form. Despite the fact he could be leaving the club for free next year, Wijnaldum continues to give his all to the club and he is proving crucial to the Reds in their hour of need.

He recently received praise from Danny Murphy over his performances for the Anfield outfit. Speaking to Sky Sports, the pundit lauded him as an “absolutely sensational” player despite going “under the radar” (via Tribal Football).

Klopp currently has a huge defensive crisis on his hands, so knowing he is solid in midfield will alleviate a bit of pressure from him. The next fixture will see the Reds take on Atalanta in the Champions League and Liverpool will need a strong performance to push forwards and they can rely on Wijnaldum to deliver.

In the meantime, perhaps it’s time for Michael Edwards to get that tempting contract offer over to the Dutchman.

Newcastle United could be completing a couple of signings before the start of the 2020/21 Premier League season. And interestingly enough, one of those players tipped to join Steve Bruce and co. is Rob Holding.

Arsenal’s defender has had a shaky last campaign and even though he did play the full 90 in the Gunners’ Community Shield victory over Liverpool, they have since added former Lille star Gabriel to the squad.

Of course, this will make his path towards the starting lineup or any significant game time that much more difficult so separation could indeed be on the cards.

Darren Bet spoke to Football Insider about this potential deal and he seems to believe Newcastle would be getting a superb signing with Holding. Here’s what he said in that interview:

“I would be disappointed to see him leave Arsenal because he offers a lot. I think he’s a good defender, he puts his head in where it hurts, it would be sad to see him go.

“For Newcastle, it would be a superb signing. He’s somebody that would go up there and defend and I think he’d enjoy himself. Listen, it would be a very, very good signing for Newcastle.”

Of course, nothing is set in stone just yet and we are still waiting for any sort of official confirmation but Bent is sure Bruce would absolutely love Holding.

But it will be up to the Magpies to actually go out there and secure the signing from Arsenal.

Verdict

At the moment, this does seem like a win-win scenario for all parties included in the potential deal. Newcastle would be getting a quality defender for their backline while Arsenal would move on a player that’s bound to warm the bench more often than not.

Not to mention that Holding himself would probably rather spend more time on the pitch as well.

وأتم طبيب الزمالك: “أما عن رزاق سيسه فمن الناحية الطبية لم أكن أعلم طبيعة إصابته والعملية التي أجراها في كوت ديفوار”.

واختتم: “سأخضع سيسيه لبعض الفحوصات وسيظهر كل شيء بعد فترة التأهيل، وقريبًا بعد أن ننتهي من كل الفحوصات سأعلن متى سيعود”.

وتابع: “لا أستطيع أن أنظر إلى أي لاعب وأقول إنه أفضل من محمد صلاح، لا يقوم بذلك فقط في الدوري الإنجليزي، وهو أفضل دوري في العالم، ولكنه يفعل ذلك في المباريات الكبيرة”.

وأضاف: “أداؤه ضد مانشستر سيتي كان رائعًا، إمكانياته الفردية مميزة وخاصة في هدفه بالمباراة”.

وواصل: “لقد استخدم سرعته ومهارته في صناعته لهدف ساديو ماني، لكن هدفه كان مبهرًا، استخدم كل ما يملك من إمكانيات فردية في لحظة واحدة، أظهرت قوته وقدمه السريعة وسرعته ثم سدد بقدمه الضعيفة إلى داخل الشباك”.

واستمر: “كان أداء رائع وكبير من محمد صلاح، اعتقد أنه مستواه يقترب من ليونيل ميسي، دون أن يكون ليونيل ميسي”.

Arsenal boosted their prospects of a European finish after yesterday’s 2-0 victory against Southampton moved them to within six points of Manchester United in fifth.

Kieran Tierney put in a great performance in during the match, receiving a 7.2 rating from SofaScore, which was the second best of any outfield player for the Gunners.

However, he did limp off late on in the game, leaving supporters to worry if he had suffered another injury.

The Scottish international was able to walk off the pitch but it would be understandable if Arsenal fans were worried as he has an abortive, injury-plagued first season for the Gunners.

However, Mikel Arteta provided some positive news as he has outlined that there is no worry for the player, telling the club’s official website: “Kieran was cramping. He hasn’t played two games together in the last seven or eight months and he was suffering. The weather is different to Scotland and he needs to adapt to it.”

This is good news for Arsenal as Tierney looked to be part of a new formation to keep the Gunners stronger in defence, and it worked. He started off as a left-back before shifting into the middle when Arteta switched to a back five from his initial four-man defence.

It is also good to have him fit so that Arsenal can have adequate squad depth, with Sead Kolasinac a good alternative to come off of the bench if needed.

Gunners fans will likely be relieved to hear that the Scotsman’s injury is not a major one, especially given his problems in that regard in recent months, ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup clash at Sheffield United.

Newcastle United’s prospective takeover has come with plenty of transfer reports – ranging from the obscene to now the obscure.

The likes of Kalidou Koulibaly, Nabil Fekir and Philippe Coutinho have all been linked with a move to the northeast giants following a successful change in ownership.

And now it’s claimed that the new Saudi owners want to sign a player in their home country in Al-Nassr striker Abderrazak Hamdallah, as per Foot Mercato.

Some of the Magpies faithful have been reacting to the news on social media as a result.

The 29-year-old has been a bit of a goal machine in the Middle East. This season, Hamdallah has scored 26 goals in 25 appearances, which is merely following up an impressive tally of 49 goals in 35 games last season.
